Rest Day 100801

JP's Rest Day Tip #2: A Trick for more Daily Protein

It's no secret that one needs protein to grow. Taking in enough protein to ensure that the building blocks for muscle growth are present can be an arduous task to say the least. Some will take in 500 grams or more of protein per day, and I can tell you that at that stage, protein consumption becomes a full time job. One easy way to add to your total protein intake for the day, as well as add quality calories, is to drink a single scoop protein shake in water or Crystal Light with each meal. Assuming a 20 gram scoop, and 6 meals per day, one can add an additional 120 grams of valuable protein to the mix without a whole lot of effort. Whey protein is around 200 calories per 20 gram serving, so in the above instance the person would be adding a supplemental 1200 calories to their day as well. That is the caloric equivalent of one half gallon of whole milk. Even with small meals based around 30 grams of protein per meal, the above would yield a 300 gram total consumption. Try it if you're having trouble getting in the needed protein and calories to grow.
