Here's an interesting excerpt from an older article by Navy Pilot and Powerlifter, Jack Reape.

"Politicians have pursued pro baseball players who used performance-enhancing drugs, but ignored the corporate gyms that preyed on the little guy, giving him nothing in return for his membership fees beyond empty workout plans developed by "personal trainers" with little fitness expertise but large incentives to sell their services to people who don't know any better."

The sad observation here is that years ago that statement would have been understood to be about the Bally's, Gold's, 24 hour fitness crowd. It is impossible to ignore the fact that the majority of the get certified over the weekend for $1000 "affiliates" and "trainers" now fit snugly into that sterotype as well. Instead of a clipboard and a polo shirt, they have a stopwatch and underarmour or lululemmon, but the level of ineptitude, and lack of a valuable service is the same. I feel sorry for the good people doing good things whose name and reputation are coming under fire daily because of the behavior of these asses for the sole reason of being mutually involved with an organization who started out so opposed to this type of douchebaggery.

"Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible."
-Doug Larson

Interesting Fact: Pierce Brosnan once worked with the circus as a fire eater. Bony had a somewhat similar though less socially accepted occupation over the summer last year at Rehobeth.

Word of the Day: Tacturiency

Man oh man. You are just begging for a slap down from the headquarters. I don't disagree with you but you know speaking the truth in the Kool Aid world will get you excommunicated.

Man oh man. You are begging for a slap from the Mothership. You know the Kool Aid swilling zombies will push for excommunication for posting such information. Even if it is the truth. I support what you are doing but you know the zombies don't believe what you are doing is Crossfit.

Ha.

I didn't mean to say it twice. Darn interwebs.

Love the site. The info and training you post here along with Jim Wendler's 5-3-1 are two of the main reasons I started back lifting weights.

Thanks Jim.

I'm glad that this site has helped you get back in the mix. Don't sweat the double post. It happens a lot. I normally just post one of them, but I liked both of yours:)

Wendler's 531 is a great program. He is an awesome guy and very knowledgeable. If you have any questions for him, don't hesitate to call EFS's line and ask for him, he will get back to you.

Similarly, call (email for #)or email me anytime if there is anything I can help you with.

It is kind of scary that anyone with 1k and a free weekend can hang a shingle and call it crossfit. One should at least have some experience with training people and some basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. At the same time the standards for level 2 seem a little obsessive and restrictive. I guess in the end...the trainers who achieve results will stay in business and those who don't....won't.
I love your site Johnny! Still waiting for you guys to come visit the barn...and I'll probably see you at Thanksgiving time!
